The stack of books on my little wobbly table in the Barnes and Noble Starbucks Cafe was high. It included titles such as Love in the Time of Cholera, Skinny Bitch, Please Understand Me II, Naked, The Secret, Why Men Like Bitches, Global Woman, Nickel and Dimed and more. Don’t judge!
I was paging through The Secret and really loving it, even though I had heard most of it on CD with Sara while we were driving back from our St. Louis road trip. The concepts are so simple, but when you realize the power in that simplicity, it shakes your foundation and changes your perspective.
Looking up momentarily from my readings, I noticed the man at the table across from me. He was probably in his mid to late thirties. He was reading a book and every few moments he would pause and look up, smiling as though he was really soaking the information in. He would read a couple more lines, pause again, and shake his head, laughing to himself. I could feel that he was either having an epiphany or reading something very profound. I caught a glimpse of the title: Think Yourself Rich. The subtitle was something about the power of the subconscious mind. Iiiinteresting….
“Good book?” I asked him.
He smiled. “Yeah,” he said. “What are you reading?”
I showed him The Secret. He smiled, knowingly. We instantly had that brain connection that you get when you come across someone else who “gets it.”
We ended up talking for about an hour until closing time, about everything, and mainly the power of the individual, synchronicity, and the law of attraction. He had read The Secret and loved it as well. The conversation was so dynamic and engrossing and just exciting! Someone else gets it! We, as humans, can do anything, achieve anything, be anything, have anything. Life can be what you want it to be. The future is now. The past doesn’t matter.
He suggested a couple books to me which I am quite eager to check out. It was so interesting to randomly start talking to someone whose life experiences were so similar to mine, and to be able to discuss all these spiritual concepts was very enlightening.
I really like The Secret. I was raised in a Christian household, but I am not a fan of organized religion. The politics and the rules and restrictions…don’t do this! Can’t do that! Restrain yourself, now!
We were put on this earth to live and experience and feel and do. I feel that the concepts in The Secret are really just the basis of spirituality and life. If you look at the common denominators of the hundreds of different religions, the bottom line is the same: love one another. Love yourself. You reap what you sow. Treat others how you want to be treated. Ask, believe, and it is yours. What’s wrong with that?
But people like to say, “BELIEVE THIS OR ELSE YOU’RE GOING TO HELL! DO THAT AND YOU’RE GOING TO BURRRN!” Um, no thank you.
It’s just all “packaged” differently, if you will. Different paths to the same destination.
“When you think about the things you want and focus on them with all intention–the law of attraction gives exactly what you want, every time. When you become aware of this, you see how incredibly powerful you are, to be able to think your life into existence.”
I believed my two huge trips into existence. I believed my new apartment into existence. I believed the metra trains running for us in France into existence. I believed Nancy and I having our own entire empty rows on the planes into existence. I believe parking spaces into existence every day without fail. I believe getting unexpected money in the mail!
It applies to anything. The universe doesn’t have limits on what it can give you! Nothing is to big or small.
“The law responds to your thoughts. Your life now is a reflection of past thoughts. Everything sent out into the universe returns to the source.”
“What you are thinking now is creating your future life. You create your life with your thoughts. What you think about most, manifests. You reap what you sow!”
“If you go back over your life and focus on the difficulties from the past, you are just bringing more difficult circumstances to you now. Let it all go, no matter what it is. If you hold a grudge or blame something in the past, you are only harming you. You create the life you deserve. Radiate good feelings, and the law will respond.”
Can’t argue with that. My life is living proof.
As I left B&N, I realized my exciting discussion had led me to stay longer than the free 90 minute parking validation time. The guard was nice and took care of it for me.
“Thank you! I just get caught up and lose myself in books sometimes,” I said to him as he walked back to my car with my receipt.
“That’s all right, me too,” he replied. “What were you reading?”
“The Secret.“
“Oh, hey, you’re hip to that too? I love that book! We will be wealthy and successful someday, I believe it!” He laughed. “Have a good night.”
…synchronicity…?
I love life.
