omfg! music is my life!

1. Of all the bands/artists in your cd/record collection, which one do you own the most albums by?

I don’t have much of a cd/record collection (where did they all go?!), but I definitely have everything Incubus and Hanson have ever done, as well as a decent Beatles collection.

2. What was the last song you listened to (voluntarily)?:
“The Good Life” by Kanye West, because life IS good. “Let’s go on a living spree! Shit, they say the best things in life are free…”

3. What’s on your record player right now?:
I don’t have one…but I have Shrek the Third in my laptop. =)

4. What song would you say sums you up?:
No one song can sum be up because I’m too complex, but I can give several:

-”Breathless” by Corinne Bailey Rae is number 1 because it’s the story of my life since I was 18.
-”In My Life” by the Beatles because that is how I feel about all my cherished ones.
-”You Know I’m No Good” by Amy Winehouse because that was me this past summer. I TOLD you I was trouble.
-”Failure By Design” by Brand New because I am a total procrastinator.
-”Glamorous” by Fergie because I fly first class, drink champagne, and live in the fast lane.
-”Something Going Round” by Hanson because I’ve got that something…you don’t know it, but you need it.
-”What Goes Around…Comes Around” by Justin Timberlake because karma is a bitch (or a very good thing) and people will get it someday, I promise.
-”Here Goes Nothing” by Treaty of Paris because I can strongly relate to the lyricist’s feelings in the verses as far as writing goes.
-”Vogue” by Madonna because I let my body move to the music.
-”Beauty Contest” and “Magic’s in the Makeup” by No Doubt because my vanity is such a mess, and “there’s more than one dimension; I can fool you and attract attention.”
-”The Stalker” by Piebald because I stalk Natalie.
-”U + Ur Hand” by Pink because I would be rich if the men would just keep the drinks and give me the money when I’m out with the ladies. (Unless they’re hot men; then I don’t mind.)
-”I Won’t Be Left” by Tegan and Sara because it is about compromise, love, and commitment, and just a beautiful song.

Oh, and “Get Low” by Lil’ Jon and the Eastside Boys.

5. What’s your favorite local band?:
Treaty of Paris doesn’t really count as ‘local’ anymore, but it would be them. I don’t really like any other locals, sorry. LFA is fun though!

6. What was the last show you attended?:
Treaty of Paris at Metro. Very impressive and entertaining.

7. What was the greatest show you’ve ever been to?:
Incubus in Wisconsin with the girls year ago was one to remember. Piebald at Metro a few years back was insanely fun. Gwen Stefani puts on a fantastically artistic show. Hanson, thrice, in 2007 were all great. And of course TOP never fails me.

8. What’s the worst band you’ve ever seen in concert?:
I hated Akon when he opened for Gwen. Ugh he sucks.

9. What band do you love musically but hate the members of?:
That’s hard to say; I don’t particularly care to know band guys much…hm. I love Amy Winehouse’s music but I wish she wasn’t such a skanky blowhead.

10. What is the most musically involved you have ever been?:
Before, during, and shortly after my couple-year-long stint at Sam Ash, and when I went away to college in 2003, I played acoustic guitar so much and I actually was really good. I also played piano and the flute in jr. high and high school, but that’s all gone now, I’m sure. I’m not good at the follow-through once I hit the plateau.

11. What show are you looking forward to?:
I don’t really have one other than Last Fast Action next month I think. Oh, and the Spice Girls.

12. What is your favorite band shirt?:
I don’t have a favorite. I don’t even have many band shirts! I don’t even remember the last time I wore a band t-shirt other than maybe an old Spitalfield one, but they’re all ancient and raggedy.

13. What musician would you like to hang out with for a day?:
Obviously my lover Zac Hanson. Oh wait, already did that thrice. I’ll say Gwen.

14. What musician would you like to be in love with for a day?:
A day? The musician that I am in love with I have always been in love with!

15. Metal question: Jeans and Leather vs. Cracker Jack clothes?:
Okay, I would never ever accept either of these. Sorry, guys can dress well without being pretentious or metrosexual. It’s possible!

16. Sabbath or solo Ozzy?:
Sabbath for sure.

17. Commodores or solo Lionel Ritchie?:
Rick James, bitch.

18. Punk rock, hip hop or heavy metal?:
Punk rockers try too hard and are incredibly typical, hip hop artists are too thugish, and metalheads are too grungy for my liking.

19. Doesn’t Primus suck?:
Um, Les Claypool sure as fuck doesn’t.

20. Name 4 flawless albums:
Is anything is truly ever flawless? Sometimes “flaws” are beautiful…hm. This is a toughie. I’m gonna go with anything in the Beatles’ anthology. And even though I can’t listen to it anymore, Green Day’s American Idiot was a great record and a good runner up. Tragic Kingdom is another oldie I love. And Thriller by Michael Jackson.

21. All totaled, how much do you spend on music a month?:
A big fat zero dollars.

22. What was the greatest decade for music?:
Depends what genre of music, among about a thousand other things. That’s an impossible question. Music is too dynamic, diverse, and ephemerally changing to say a time period was the greatest.

23. How many music-related videos/dvds do you own?
ONE. No Doubt, baby. Oh, and I probably have Tulsa, Tokyo, and the Middle of Nowhere somewhere.

24. Do you like Journey?:
Any way you want it.

25. Don’t try to pretend you don’t!:
Journey rules.

26. What is your favorite movie soundtrack?:
The Chicago musical soundtrack. “and all that jazz…”

27. What was your last musical “phase” before you wisened up?:
I haven’t had a “phase” in a while, if that’s the correct way to put it. I grew up watching the MTV tapes my mom would record with Michael Jackson, Madonna and other 80s artists. When I was in elementary school and junior high I just listened to the radio and tape recorded whatever was on B96. Hanson was one of the first bands I genuinely loved (read: obsessed). I then loved the typical pop music of the late 90s, then went into my indie rocker girl era when I dyed part of my hair pink, wore studded belts and Chucks, and went to a million shows a month. That’s all died down–I just like music. Especially live music.

28. What’s the crappiest CD/record/etc. you’ve ever bought?:
Whatever shit I used to listen to when I was 12. I guess I can’t judge the little Hannah Montana freaks—but it still disgusts me. Yeesh.

29. Do you prefer vinyl or CDs?:
I totally would prefer vinyl if I had a record player. But I have neither! I have an iPod and a laptop!

30. Did you know that filling out this survey makes you a music geek?:
Maybe, but I don’t think I am enlightened enough to be a music geek. I listen to a lot of stuff, but there is so much out there that I have yet to discover. I definitely love and appreciate music (and any kind of art) SO much, but I think it’s silly when people say, “omg, music is my life!” No, it’s not. You just listen to and love a shitload of bands and artists and live vicariously through them–which is cool for a minute, but overall kind of pathetic. Live your own damn life! Unless you’re a musician or work in the industry, I don’t think you can really say that music is your life. But hey, it’s just my opinion. And I have a lot of those.
