Just another reason why I love will.i.am.
“‘Boom Boom Pow’ was made for underground clubs. Like, if I would’ve thought that was gonna be a radio song, I would’ve made it different. For example, when we made ‘Don’t Lie‘, I was like oh, let’s make this radio friendly. ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry,‘ ooh this sounds like a radio song, let me put some radio touch on it. That don’t exist anymore. There’s no such thing as a radio song. Radio is what the people want, and ‘Boom Boom Pow’ is proof that if something’s dope, regardless of if it has that sprinkled radio vibe, that it should be played on the radio and the people are gonna like it.”
He understands the changing dynamic of the recording industry. There’s no such thing as a record store any more. Music is digital. Radio-friendly doesn’t necessarily mean polished bubbly pop anymore.
I just think dude is REALLY cool. The stuff he’s done over the last several years just keeps getting better and better. When the Black Eyed Peas’ record The E.N.D. was released in June, I couldn’t stop raving about how different and FUN it is.

Some people I played it for were like, “Meh, I don’t like it. It’s only about partying and is too dancey.” What’s wrong with that? Some people also said, “They used to sing about things with more substance and now it’s completely mindless.” Um…YEARS ago. I mean, one of their last huge singles was “My Humps,” which wasn’t about anything (and certainly annoyed a lot of people with its catchy hooks). I don’t think that’s a bad thing!

THE music group of the summer. Holding the #1 and #2 spots on the charts for 22 weeks and counting!
I was up front for the Peas’ performance yesterday at Oprah’s 24th season kickoff party…it was a ton of fun. More to come on that experience soon!
